Who Won Summer Baking Championship 2023?

Publish date: 2024-01-24

Lisa, Kristina, Kyle, Ally, Carlos, John and Anrika went home on Summer Baking Championship. The sixth episode of the series premiered on June 12.

Throughout the season, the competitors will have to elevate summer classics like cobbler, cream pies, s'mores, and ice cream. After all, the competition is all about having fun in the sun.

Five episodes of the newest baking series have already landed on our screens. So, what were the challenges? Who has been eliminated from the show so far? Here is all we need to know.

Episode 1: Dockside Desserts

The series kicked off with a challenge to recall pleasant summer memories, as the competitors were tasked to create doughnuts that look like water floaties with 3D decorated elements.

Most of the doughnuts were underwhelming, with some bakers not understanding the theme.

But there were some good ones, including Yohann, who won the Pre Heat challenge and earned an advantage for the Main Heat, where they had to create a cake with a gelatin water feature.

Alyssa won the premiere main heat with her colorful and fun cake, offering a unique flavor profile borrowed from her Filipino heritage.

Unfortunately, two bakers, Kyle and Lisa, were at the bottom. In the end, Lisa was the first competitor eliminated on the Summer Baking Championship premiere.

She struggled with many aspects, from her gelatin being hard to the cake leaning. Moreover, her decision to use modeling chocolate as water balloons didn't pay off.

Episode 2: Let's Cool Off

The second episode was all about ice cream. In the Pre-Heat, the bakers made ice cream sandwiches adding their creative inlay.

The inlays in the cookies the bakers used included seashells, palm trees, lemons, and tie-dye. The bakers were more confident compared to the first episode challenge.

However, the problems knocked on their doors when the judges tasted their cookies. While some had more flavor, some were hard to bite.

But it was Kyle who stood out with his lemon inlay ice cream sandwich.

In the Main Heat, the bakers were tasked to make ice cream desserts inspired by ice cream truck treats.

The ice cream treats on option were chocolate caramel ice cream bars, chocolate dipped vanilla cones, chocolate vanilla almond bars, cherry pineapple swirl pops, and raspberry ice cream bars.

It was again Kyle, who impressed the judges with his raspberry Swiss roll. And it was Kristina, who went home.

Episode 3: Summer Fun in the Sun

Episode 3 was all about outside summer activities. The bakers were challenged to make radical s'more desserts with wild chocolate flavors in the Pre Heat.

The bakers had to use fresh-pressed juice to make a dessert inspired by bike riding. This time, they worked in teams of two -Kyle and John; Zoe and Carlos; Yohann and Alyssa; and Anrika and Ally.

The judges truly praised Zoe and Carlos's yuzu and coconut s'more candy bar.

On to the Main Heat, the bakers had to make their own unique version of a Paris-Breat. Some bakers struggled with their proportions and flavors in this challenge.

They also had to use fresh-pressed juice in the bake.

Alyssa came on top in this episode with her caramel apple Paris-Brest. Sadly, Kyle Davis had to leave because he only got his choux pastry on the plate. He was eliminated without any deliberation.

Episode 4: Summer Fruitastic

For episode 4 pre heat, the contenders had to make either a clafoutis, crumble, or cobbler.

Although a few bakers had mistakes with their dough, the desserts were relatively successful. The clafoutis and its custard were the most challenging.

Ally won the pre-heat, as the judges loved her blueberry cobbler. And while the appearance was not so pleasant, the balanced flavor earned big praise.

The win earned her an advantage -she was able to switch her main heat flavor if she wanted.

The main heat challenged the bakers to make watermelon desserts that look and taste like watermelon.

Since Ally had an advantage, she decided to swap her watermelon and ginger flavors for Anricka's watermelon and lime flavors.

Then, came a mid-challenge twist, adding feta to the dessert.

Ally fell hard after the pre heat win. Her pavlova was underbaked and her combination of watermelon and lime did not sync with the feta.

Unfortunately, Ally was sent home in episode 4.

Episode 5: Beach Day

In Episode 5, Host Palmer tasks the contenders with capturing the beach vibe using beach drink trifles. And when the sun starts to get too hot, the bakers will make summer cream pies.

For the pre-heat challenge, the participants had to make a cocktail-inspired trifle. But who came on top? That was John!

On to the main heat, the bakers had to prepare cream pies and since John won the previous challenge, he got to pick the type of creampie each contestant made. He chose banana cream pie for himself.

A twist came in the middle when the bakers had to create a tempered chocolate decoration.

The judges really liked Yohann and Zoe's pies. But only one baker could win the challenge and that was Yohann. The episode saw him rise from the bottom to the top.

Sadly, Carlos had to leave the competition as he didn't do well in both challenges.

Episode 6: Summer Celebrations

Summer Baking Championship Episode 6 was all about grilling and Pride! And with only five contenders remaining, they had to step up their game.

Anrika and Yohann's desserts were both a little too grilled and tasted burnt. Judges were also disappointed with John's pound cake.

But who won? It was Zoe, who impressed the judges with her blondie with grilled peaches.

But it couldn't be a cake and only Zoe could make one because she won the first challenge.

John's Italian rainbow cookie was overly sweet, and Alyssa's dessert lacked complexity in flavor.

Yohan won the challenge as his rainbow tart was complex, colorful, and absolutely gorgeous. John and Alyssa were in the bottom and it was John who went home this week.

Episode 7: Sweets of Barbie

The remaining bakers in Summer Baking Championship Episode 7 are Alyssa, Yohann, Anrika, and Zoe. The episode celebrated the Warner Bros. Pictures' movie event of the summer, Barbie.

Inspired by Barbie's signature color, the host asked the contestants to make pink desserts using ingredients like pink pineapple and pink guava in the pre-heat.

For the main heat challenge, the bakers had to whip up real cakes that look like fake toy cakes.

As Anrika won the first challenge, she got to decide which twist ingredients she and the other competitors must use in their Barbie toy cakes.

The bakers had to include one of given neon colors -purple, yellow, green, and turguoise- inside their cakes.

Despite winning the pre-heat, Anrika failed to impress the judges with her toy cake in the main heat. She was eliminated in the end of the episode.
